Did you hear about the word of the year 2007 yet? If not yet, let me tell what it is; the word is w00t, which was among the top 20 nominees for the year 2007 word of the year. Not, it is not woot. And yes what you are seeing is two zeros in between the letter “w” and “t.” The word w00t is used mainly by online gamers when they win and top all other other players and teams.
If you are wondering what were the other nominees, here they are – “facebook,” “quixotic,” “hypocrite” and “conundrum”; and “blamestorm.”
Merriam-Webster chose to include the word “w00t” because they was the word w00t was an ideal choice because it blends whimsy and new technology. “It shows a really interesting thing that’s going on in language. It’s a term that’s arrived only because we’re now communicating electronically with each other,” Merriam Webster President Morse has said.
Here is another example of word similar to w00t – l33t. l33t can be read as leet meaning elite. Purists of “l33t speak” often substitute a “7″ for the final “t,” expressing a “w007″ of victory  an “in your face” of sorts  when they defeat an online gaming opponent.
